PEDESTRIAN FORKLIFTS
Pedestrian forklifts are commonly known as walk behind forklifts or 'walkies' as they are operated by the user who walks behind the unit. The are controlled by the command post which allows the operator to move and direct the unit as well as control features such as lift. Older styles of walkies have hydraulic levers to control features such as lift, tilt, reach and some time side shift. In NSW and many other states, operators of pedestrian forklifts do not require forklift license which makes them very popular. Whilst there is a variety of features & variations to the pedestrian forklift there are 3 main types: Stacker, Reach & Counter Balance. The load wheel size of the of the pedestrian forklifts is the next distinguishing feature as they come in two standard sizes: dual 4" tandems or one 8" load wheel. Depends on your surface and entry point, depends on which wheel you'll require. Contact the sales team at Koala Trucks to work out which is best for you.
Walkie Stacker
The walkie stacker has two main varieties: 1. Manual Push and 2. Power Drive. Both varieties typically have power lift. However, the forks on a walkie stacker will only go up and down.
Manual push forklifts are usually limited to lifting light loads to not very tall heights. To move the unit the operator needs to physically push the unit to 'drive' it around. Koala Trucks recommends this forklift for absolutely smooth and level surfaces.
Power drive units come in a variety of weight classes from 750 Kg to 2000 Kg. They also come in a variety of lifting heights from 1500mm to 5800mm. These units are operated by the command post. An example of this unit is the first image pictured to the left.
Walkie Reach
The walkie reach forklift adds more value to the to walkie stacker. Standard models do this with a pentagraph (scissor movement) reach and tilt. Some varieties of the unit also come with side shift. Some applications also call for the walkie reach to have specialised attachments fitted to the unit such as rotators and clamps to name a couple. All functions of the walkie reach forklift are power operated. Whilst the walkie reach has the same lifting heights as a walkie stacker, the capacities however start at 1500 Kg and go to 2000 Kg. An example of this unit is the second imaged pictured to the left.
Walkie Counterbalance
The walkie counterbalance whilst operated by a command post does have some distinguishing differences to the walkie stacker and walkie reach. The body of the unit is longer than the walkie stacker / reach and does have power drive, lift & tilt however it does not have legs that extend in front of it. This does have its advantages in certain applications.
